7/31/2005 - Mets Finally Take One From The Astros 9-4
Kaz Ishii (3-9) didn't last too long - going only four innings and giving up five hits and three runs. Juan Padilla came on in relief and pitched two innings - giving up three hits and one run.
Aaron Heilman (4-3) followed with one inning of work - giving up one hit and no runs and earned the win. Roberto Hernandez came in and Braden Looper followed to close out the game without giving up any more runs.
The NY Mets offense came back to life tonight, starting in the fourth inning, when Cliff Floyd hit a solo home run (24th of the season) to center and Doug Mientkiewicz scored David Wright when he grounded into double play.
Then in the fifth inning, Carlos Beltran hit a single to center that scored Jose Reyes - who was on base with his eighteenth double of the year, which also extended his hitting streak to fourteen games. Then in the eighth inning, Ramon Castro hit a single that scored Mike Cameron.
The last offensive rally came in the ninth inning when David Wright hit a single which scored Carlos Beltran - moving Cliff Floyd to second. Mike Cameron followed with a single that scored Cliff Floyd - moving David Wright to second.
Ramon Castro followed with a single to center that scored David Wright - moving Mike Cameron to third. Marlon Anderson ended the rally when he hit a sacrifice fly that scored Mike Cameron
The NY Mets need more offense and they need it fast! Tuesday nights pitching dual pins Victor Zambrano against Tomo Ohka and the Milwaukee Brewers. Let's Go Mets!
7/30/2005 - Astros Beat The Mets Yet Again 2-0
Tom Glavine (7-9) just couldn't contain the Astros as well as Andy Pettitte contained the NY Mets. Glavine pitched seven quality innings - giving up five hits and only one run.
Braden Looper came in and gave up the other run and the NY Mets offense just couldn't answer again!
Hopefully the Mets will win at least one! Tomorrows final game pitching dual will pin Kaz Ishii (3-9) against Roy Oswalt (14-8). Let's Go Mets!
7/29/2005 - Astros Beat The Mets Again 5-2
Kris Benson (7-4) tried, but couldn't stop the surging Astros. Benson had one of his worst outings in a while - going only 5 1/3 innings and giving up six hits and five runs (including three home runs). Jose Santiago and Juan Padilla came in on relief and closed out the game - giving up only one hit each.
The NY Mets only offense of the night came in the sixth inning when David Wright sacrificed to center and Carlos Beltran scored. Then Mike Piazza hit a single to center and Cliff Floyd scored. Hopefully Tom Glavine will get the job done tomorrow. Let's Go Mets!
7/28/2005 - The Astros Beat The NY Mets 3-2
What is wrong with the Mets? From third place to last place in one day! Pedro Martinez did his job tonight and unfortunately didn't get enough support for the win.
Martinez pitched eight very strong innings - giving up only four hits and two runs. Roberto Hernandez (5-4) came on in relief and blew the game by giving up the game winning run for the Astros and the devastating defeat for the Mets.
The Mets are playing like their numbers indicate - a .500 team. The Astros have come from the depths to second place in the central division and tied for first, with the Nationals, in the wild card race.
The Mets need to at least take two games from the Astros to stay close in the standings. Tomorrow nights pitching dual pins Kris Benson (7-3) against Wandy Rodriguez (5-4) and the Astros. Let's Go Mets!
7/27/2005 - The NY Mets Finally Beat The Rockies 9-3
Victor Zambrano (5-9) earned his victory tonight, pitching seven innings and giving up five hits and two runs. Danny Graves followed in relief and pitched two innings, giving up four hits and one run.
Marlon Anderson started the offense with a solo home run in the second inning. Then in the fourth inning, Marlon Anderson hit another solo home run, followed by Ramon Castro's home run.
In the fifth inning, Miguel Cairo hit a single which scored Victor Zambrano and moved Jose Reyes to third. Carlos Beltran then hit a double which scored Jose Reyes and Miguel Cairo moved to third. David Wright hit a double which scored both Miguel Cairo and Carlos Beltran - Cliff Floyd moved to third. Ramon Castro came up and hit a double which scored both Cliff Floyd and David Wright.
Hopefully this momentum will follow the NY Mets are they start a four game series with Houston Astros tomorrow night. Tomorrow nights pitching dual pins Pedro Martionez (12-3) against Ezequiel Astacio (1-4). Let's Go Mets!
7/26/2005 - The NY Mets Lose Again To The Rockies 4-3
What is happening with the NY Mets? They have now lost two games in a row to the worst team in Major League baseball - in the best hitting park in Major League baseball!
Kaz Ishii (3-9) didn't pitch a gem, but he also didn't pitch the worst game ever - considering that it was Coor's field. Ishii pitched five innings and gave up seven hits and four runs. Juan Padilla came on in relief an pitched a perfect inning - followed by Aaron Heilman who gave up only one hit in two innings of work.
Hopefully the NY Mets can right their sinking ship before being swept by the Rockies and then playing four games with the Houston Astros. Tomorrows pitching dual pins Victor Zambrano (4-9) against Jamey Wright (5-10). Let's Go Mets!
7/25/2005 - The NY Mets Lose To The Colorado Rockies 5-3
Tom Glavine just couldn't contain the Rockies and neither could he adjust to pitching in Coors Field, where he is now 10-5. Glavine went six innings, giving up eight hits and five runs. Jose Santiago came for relief of Glavine and closed out the rest of the game, giving up only three hits.
The NY Mets offense tried to catch up, but only managed to score three runs - all in the fourth inning. It started with Mike Cameron's double to right that scored Jose Reyes - who also hit his eleventh league leading triple of the year. Cliff Floyd then tripled to right and Mike Cameron scored. David Wright sacrificed to right and Cliff Floyd scored.
The Mets need to take tomorrow nights game just to remain competitive in the standings. The current pitching dual pins Kaz Ishii (3-8) against Jeff Francis (8-7). Let's Go Mets!
7/25/2005 - Notes and News
When the NY Mets won yesterdays game, against the Dodgers 6-0, it tied their season high of four games over .500. The Mets are also only 3.5 games out of first place and need to keep this momentum up to ensure a spot in the post season.
Heath Bell was also sent down to the minors and Jose Santiago, a right handed pitcher, was called up. This move was more strategic due to the fact that the Mets are going to be playing seven games in hitter friendly parks - three with the Rockies and four with the Astros - and Santiago is more of a ground ball pitcher and Bell is more of strike out pitcher.
7/24/2005 - The NY Mets Beat The Dodgers Again 6-0
Kris Benson (7-3) led the NY Mets to a 6-0 shutout of the Dodgers today. In eight innings of work and 125 pitches later, Benson gave up only four hits and struke out five. Aaron Heilman came in and closed out the game with a perfect inning of relief work.
Mike Piazza led the offensive rally in the second inning when he hit a two run home run - his twelfth of the year - to the deep left, scoring David Wright. In the third inning, Cliff Floyd hit a double to center and Carlos Beltran scored. Then, also in third, Mike Piazza singled to right center and Cliff Floyd scored. In the eighth inning, Marlon Anderson hit a single to right - which scored both Gerald Williams and Doug Mientkiewicz.
The NY Mets finished their offensive rally with a total of six runs and the victory. Tomorrow nights 9:05pm pitching pins Tom Glavine (7-7) against Jose Acevedo (1-0) and the Colorado Rockies at Colorado. Let's Go Mets!
7/23/2005 - The Mets Take Down The Dodgers 7-5
Pedro Martinez (12-3) didn't have his best stuff, but with the help of Jose Reyes, he earned his twelfth win of the season. Martinez pitched seven innings and gave up eight hits and all five runs - he also raised his National League leading strike out total 147.
Roberto Hernandez came on in relief and pitched perfect ball for one inning - followed by one perfect inning and the save by Braden Looper - his twenty-second of the year.
The offensive star of the game was Jose Reyes, who had four hits for the day - which includes his tenth triple of the season (major league leader) and two stolen bases (numbers thirty-three and thirty-four of the season).
The NY Mets scored early in the first inning when Mike Cameron hit a single and Jose Reyes scored. In the third inning, Cliff Floyd grounded out to short and Jose Reyes scored. In the sixth inning, Ramon Castro grounded out to short and David Wright scored.
In the seventh inning, Jose Reyes hit a triple to right field and Marlon Anderson scored. Then Carlos Beltran hit a single to center and Jose Reyes scored. In the eighth inning, Jose Reyes hit a single to left field and Miguel Cairo scored for a 7-5 NY Met victory.
The NY Mets look to take the series tomorrow afternoon when Kris Benson (6-3) faces Brad Penny (5-5). Let's Go Mets!
7/22/2005 - The Dodgers Beat The NY Mets 6-5
Victor Zambrano (4-9) just didn't have his best stuff tonight, he lasted only 4 2/3 innings and gave up ten hits and all six runs. Heath Bell, Juan Padilla and Roberto Hernandez finished the game without allowing any more runs.
The offense tried to surpass a 6-0 Dodger lead to win, but fell short with only five runs. In the fifth inning, Doug Mientkiewicz hit a home run and David Wright scored. Then in the sixth inning, Carlos Beltran hit a home run to deep right - which scored both Jose Reyes and Mike Cameron. But that was all she wrote for offense.
Pedro Martinez takes the mound tomorrow afternoon looking for his twelve victory of the year, when he faces D.J. Houlton (4-3) and the Dodgers. Let's Go Mets!
7/22/2005 - Kaz Matsui Update
Kaz Martsui will run the bases tomorrow for the first time in just about a month. If that goes well, a minor league start will follow.
7/21/2005 - Mets Sweep The Padres With Today's 12-0 Win
Kaz Ishii (3-8) won his first game at Shea and David Wright became the first NY Met, this season, with two hits in the same inning - a single and a double in the seven run sixth inning.
The Mets came alive today in a big way, shutting out the Padres 12-0 in their three game sweep of the west coast division leaders. Kaz Ishii pitched six scoreless innings, giving up only four hits. Dae-Sung Koo and Heath Bell both pitched one scoreless inning a piece and Danny Graves closed out the game - allowing only two hits in one inning of work.
The offense put everything together nicely, scoring twelve hits on twelve runs. Tomorrow nights pitching dual at Shea pins Victor Zambrano (4-8) against Jeff Weaver (7-8) and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Let's Go Mets!
7/20/2005 - Mets Down The Padres 7-3
Tom Glavine (7-7) finally earned a win after pitching so well against the Braves and Smoltz. Glavine pitched six innings, giving up six hits and two runs. Aaron Heilman came in on relief for 1 2/3 innings and gave up three hits and one run. Juan Padilla closed out the game for his first save in a little over one inning of perfect ball.
The offense started right away! In the first inning Carlos Beltran homered (#11) and scored Jose Reyes. Then in the second inning, Jose Reyes hit a double to left field which scored Miguel Cairo. Mike Piazza got into the action in the third inning when he doubled to center and scored David Wright - for a 4-0 Met lead.
But Piazza wasn't finished yet - in the fifth inning, Cliff Floyd reached base on a single and scored Mike Cameron. Mike Piazza came up and hit a two run home run (Piazza's eleventh of the year) which scored Cliff Floyd.
Mike Piazza's fifth inning home run was his 389th of his career and it tied him with Johnny Bench and placed him 46th on the all time home run list - right behind Graig Nettles. It was also his 367 home run as a catcher- which is the most for catchers - ever!
But it wasn't only Piazza that broke records - Tom Glavine also moved up a notch, and passed Dwight Gooden (2,293), to 43rd place on the all time strikeout list with 2,296. Tomorrow afternoons pitching dual pins Kaz Ishii (2-8) against Jake Peavy (8-3) and the San Diego Padres. Let's Go Mets!
7/19/2005 - Mets To The Padres 3-1
The NY Mets beat the Padres on Chris Woodward's first ever game winning home run in the eleventh inning, for a 3-1 victory over the Padres.
Kris Benson pitched another good game and once again, didn't get the win. He pitched seven innings, giving up five hits and one run - a home run in the fifth inning to Khalil Greene (ss). The NY Mets answered with a solo home run, also in the fifth inning, from Cliff Floyd - his 23rd of the season.
After the fifth inning, it was a deadlock until Woodward's game winning long ball in the eleventh. Tomorrow's pitching dual pins Tom Glavine (6-7) against Woody Williams (5-5) and the San Diego Padres. Let's Go Mets!
7/18/2005 - Steve Trachsel Update
Steve Trachsel, who has been out due to back surgery, will make a minor league rehabilitation start on Wednesday.
7/17/2005 - Martinez Pitches His 11th Win Over The Braves 8-1
Pedro Martinez (11-3) earned his eleventh win this afternoon, as he led the NY Mets back up to .500 mark with an 8-1 victory over Atlanta, for a 2-2 series tie. Martinez pitched a solid six innings, giving up no runs and two hits - while only throwing sixty-one pitches!
The bullpen closed out the game and only allowed one run to score. Juan Padilla followed Martinez for one perfect inning. Followed by Heath Bell's three hit and one run inning and Dae-Sung Koo who closed out the game and only allowed one hit.
The NY Mets offense also came alive today, after sleeping through yesterdays game, and scored eight runs - five of which came off of Mike Hampton (4-2) in the first two innings on his return from the DL.
The Mets need to carry this momentum over to the next two series with the Padres and Dodgers at Shea if the hope to remain competitive. Tuesday nights pitching dual pins Kris Benson (6-1) against Brian Lawrence (5-9) and the San Diego Padres. Let's Go Mets!
7/16/2005 - Atlanta Downs The Mets 3-0
Victor Zambrano (4-8) pitched another quality start and unfortunately didn't get the win or any run support again, which is a shame considering that he has an ERA of only 2.36 in his last nine starts. Hopefully the NY Mets will pick up the pace and score tomorrow when Pedro Martinez takes the mound. Let's Go Mets
7/15/2005 - Atlanta Beats The NY Mets 2-1
Tonight's game was definitely a pitching dual, with Tom Glavine (6-7) battling John Smoltz (10-5) right to the end. Tom Glavine pitched seven very quality innings, giving up six hits and one run. Roberto Hernandez came in for relief of Glavine with the score tried 1-1. Unfortunately, he couldn't keep the game under control and gave up three hits and one run over two innings - which led to the Braves victory.
The NY Mets offense was also silent tonight, except for a solo home run from David Wright in the second inning - his fourteenth of the year. Other than a few hits and a double from Jose Reyes (his 100th of the season) in the third inning, Smoltz shut down the Mets. Tomorrow nights 7:10 pitching dual pins Victor Zambrano (4-7) against Tim Hudson (6-5) and the Braves. Let's Go Mets!
7/15/2005 - Injury Report - - Manager Moves
Pitching: Steve Trachsel took the mound a few days ago against some batters in a light drill and is still projected to be a few weeks away form returning.
Kaz Ishii (2-8) will also not be in the rotation for at least eight games following the All-Star break. Instead, the NY Mets will work with a four man pitching rotation. The reaseon for this change is obvious, Ishii has been the Mets worst starter and the Mets need to make some moves in the standings if they are going to contend.
Position Players: Kaz Matsui is also still out with his bruised left knee, with no projection on his return. And lastly, Doug Mientkiewicz should be back this weekend from his torn right hamstring (from June 25).
7/14/2005 - Piazza Leads The Mets Over Atlanta 6-3
It was the bottom of the eighth inning with the game tied 3-3. Mike Piazza was up and trailing 0-2 against Blaine Boyer, the Atlanta Braves relief pitcher. Boyer winds up, pitches and Piazza connects - taking the pitch deep over the right field fence for a three run home run and Shea goes wild! Not bad for a so called 'old' catcher that everyone has written off! Today's home run brought Piazza's home run total to 388 and his career total RBI's to 1,200!!
But it all started with David Wright, he started the offense tonight with a solo home run in the second inning (12) and then again in the fourth inning (13). Then in the seventh inning, Jose Offerman hit a single to left and David Wright scored. Mike Piazza performed his magic in the eighth inning, when his home run scored both Carlos Beltran (who went 4-4 for the night) and Cliff Floyd.
Even though Kris Benson (6-3) didn't get the win, he did pitch pitch seven quality innings - giving up three runs and five hits. Roberto Hernandez came on in relief and obtained the win (5-2), pitching one scoreless inning. Braden Looper followed and closed out the game, his twenty first save of the year. Tomorrows pitching dual pins Tom Glavine (6-7) against John Smoltz (9-5) and the Braves. Let's Go Mets!
7/11/2005 - The Mets Sign Two Sixteen Year Old Players
The NY Mets recently signed two sixteen year old players, Jesus Martinez of the Dominican Republic and Deolis Guerra of Venezuela.
Jesus Martinez, an 6-foot 185 pound outfielder who bats lefty and throws righty, received a $1.4 million contract. Deolis Guerra, a 6-foot-5 200 pound right handed pitcher, also received a contract with undisclosed terms. Both players cannot play in the US until they reach their eighteenth birthday.
7/10/2005 - Pedro Martinez Takes Down The Pirates 6-1
Pedro Martinez (10-3) pitched his tenth victory and helped the Mets avoid a sweep by the Pirates. Today's win also assured that the NY Mets would enter into the second half of the season at .500, although still in last place - it's still better than being under the mark.
Martinez pitched seven very effective innings today, giving up five hits and one run. Hernandez came in on relief and pitched a scoreless inning and Looper closed out the game.
Offense was also active in favor of Martinez. Of course, Carlos Beltran homered for Martinez in the first, which scored Reyes. Then in the fifth inning, Jose Reyes hit a single to center and Miguel Cairo scored and Pedro Martinez moved to third. Mike Cameron followed with a double to left - which scored both Martinez and Reyes. The last Met runs of the game came in the sixth inning when Cairo hit a double and Castro scored.
Hopefully, some of this momentum will carry forward into Thursday nights opening four game series with the Atlanta Braves at Shea. The NY Mets need to be more consistent over the second half if they hope to be in the post season this year. Steven Trachsell is rumored to be back within a month and if healthy, can provide a much needed break from watching Ishii lose. Let's Go Mets!
7/9/2005 - Mets Lost To The Pirates Again 11-4
What more can be said! The NY Mets have been absolutely impossible to watch for the past two games. Kaz Ishii (2-8) went 5 2/3 innings and gave up six hits and four runs. The bullpen was even worse - Heath Bell gave up three hits and four runs and Danny Graves gave up tow hits and three runs - for a seven run seventh inning, which included a grand slam. Royce Ring and Dae-Sung Koo closed out this disaster without allowing any more runs. Tomorrows pitching dual in Pittsburgh pins Pedro Martinez (9-3) against Kip Wells (6-8) and the Pirates at 1:35 pm. Let's Go Mets!
7/8/2005 - The Mets Lose 6-5 To The Pirates
Tonight's lose was very pitiful! The Mets came off a tremendous series win against the Nationals and then played like a bunch of Minor Leaguers against the Pirates. The NY Mets had a 5-1 lead in the ninth inning and blew the game - allowing the trailing Pirates to tie the game in the bottom of ninth and then win the game in the tenth.
The problem wasn't Victor Zambrano (4-7), he pitched a very well eight innings and only gave up five hits and one run. The disaster was the bullpen - Aaron Heilman gave up two hits and three runs and Braden Looper gave up three hits and two runs - and that was all she wrote.
There is absolutely no way that the NY Mets are ever going to contend this year making the kind of mistakes they are making. But, that's what a .500 team does. Play great sometimes and not so great - or even awful other times. It's not to say that even the best teams don't have mind melt at times - but it just seems to prevalent with the Mets.
It was exciting to see the Mets win the series against the Nationals! But the reason the game went into extra innings was because of a bad - yet hard play - that David Wright mishandled. And unfortunately, that batter went on to score - an all too common scenario for the Mets. The game winning hit by Piazza - a great hit also - was riddled with yet another double play against the NY Mets because of bad base running decisions by the players (in this case, Piazza being thrown out at second and Floyd at the plate).
These types of fielding, hitting and pitching dilemmas seem all to common for the NY Mets. The second half of the season starts next Thursday, when the Mets take on the Atlanta Braves at Shea. The Mets have a few days to regroup and come out - hopefully - ready for the second half! Tomorrow nights pitching dual in Pittsburgh pins Kaz Ishii (2-7) against Dave Williams (6-6) and the Pirates at 7:05 pm. Let's Go Mets!
7/7/2005 - Mike Piazza and The Mets Beat The Nationals 3-2
Wow! The NY Mets take the series from the Nationals in Washington today. Which is no easy achievement considering that the Nationals haven't lost a series at home since April. One of the reasons that then Mets were able to do it, was Mike Piazza!
First with pitching, Kris Benson didn't do a bad job today, he pitched seven innings and gave up seven hits and two runs. Roberto Hernandez came in on relief and pitched one scoreless inning, followed by two great scoreless innings by Heath Bell (1-3) - who also recorded his first win today. Braden Looper came in the the eleventh inning and recorded his twentieth save of the season.
As for offense, the first run came in the first inning - when Carlos Beltran grounded out and Jose Reyes scored. The rest of the game was Mike Piazza day. After an off day, Piazza came on strong going 3-5. He hit a double in the fourth inning and scored Carlos Beltran. Then in the eleventh inning, Piazza hit a single that scored Carlos Beltran.
But it wasn't over yet - Piazza tried to stretch out his hit into a double and he was thrown out at second by Brian Schneider, the Nationals catcher. Cliff Floyd also tried to stretch out the play by coming home, but was thrown out at the plate by Jamey Carroll, the Nationals shortstop.
Even with the Nationals making this play, Looper was able to shut them down in the bottom of the eleventh and the Mets went on to win the game 3-2 and take the series. Tomorrow nights pitching dual in Pittsburgh pins Victor Zambrano (4-7) against Josh Fogg (4-4) and the Pirates at 7:05 pm. Let's Go Mets!
7/6/2005 - The Mets Top The Nationals 5-3
Tom Glavine (6-7) didn't exactly pitch a gem tonight, but he did get the win. Glavine pitched 5 2/3 innings, giving up nine hits and three runs and left the game to Aaron Heilman with the bases loaded in the sixth. Heilman came into a tight situation and closed out the inning and went on to pitch two more innings without giving up any runs or hits. Braden Looper came in the ninth inning and achieved his nineteenth save of the season.
It was simply a thing of beauty to watch the NY Mets beat Livan Hernandez (12-3) who was on an eleven game winning streak - with his last loss coming on April 19, 2005. The NY Mets offense started early, Mike Cameron hit a solo home run in the first. The next runs to score would be in the sixth inning. Marlon Anderson singled to third and Carlos Beltran scored - Cliff Floyd moved to third and David Wright moved to second. Ramon Castro followed with a single and Cliff Floyd and David Wright scored.
The last Met run came in th eight inning, when Marlon Anderson hit a sacrifice fly and Carlos Beltran scored. Hopefully the Mets can carry some momentum over and win tomorrow afternoons game. The pitching dual pins Kris Benson (6-3) against Tony Armas (4-4). Let's Go Mets!
7/5/2005 - Nationals Down The Mets 3-2
The NY Mets are now ten games out of first place and have only two more games with the Nationals and then three with the Pirates before the All-Star break. The Mets haven't been playing horrible, it's just that the rest of the division teams are playing just as well or better.
At this rate, the Mets have lost their chance to start the second half of the season within reasonable contention. It doesn't mean that the NY Mets can't still make a strong push or capture the Wild Card, it just means that as long as the Nationals keep playing as they have - it will be pretty hard for any division team to top them. The Mets need to put some long strings of wins together, coupled by division team losses - something that hasn't happened yet.
As far as today's game goes, Pedro Martinez (9-3) pitched seven innings, giving up three runs and eight hits. Danny Graves came in and closed out the remaining batters without giving up any runs or hits. Today's problem wasn't the pitching, although Martinez did give up three runs, it was the fact that the National's pitchers have been very effective - even with low run support.
The NY Mets were shut down until the ninth inning, when the Mets scored their only two runs of the game. David Wright hit a single and Cliff Floyd scored, Marlon Anderson moved to third. Jose Reyes came up and grounded out to first, but it enabled Marlon Anderson to score. Tomorrows pitching dual pins Tom Glavine (5-7) against Livan Hernandez (12-2) and the Nationals at 7:05 pm in Washington. Let's Go Mets!
7/4/2005 - The Mets Beat The Nationals 5-2
Kaz Ishii (2-7) pitched 5 1/3 inning against the Nationals today, giving up two runs and five hits. Bell and Hernandez came in for relief of Ishii and pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings before handing over the ball to Looper for his eighteenth save of the year.
Willie Randolph also did some line up shuffling and it paid off. Jose Reyes, who lost his leadoff spot to Mike Cameron, is hitting seventh and doing it effectively. Reyes hit one RBI single to tie the game and another single that led to the Mets win. Mike Cameron also had two RBI's for the day, scoring Jose Reyes in the seventh on a single and scoring Jose Offerman on a double in the ninth.
Jose Offerman also scored Jose Reyes on a single in the ninth and Carlos Beltran scored Mike Cameron on a single, also in the ninth inning. Tomorrows pitching dual pins the Pedro Martinez (9-2) against Esteban Loaiza (4-5) and the Nationals at 7:05 pm.
7/3/2005 - The Met Are Shutout 3-0
Dontrelle Willis (13-3) owned the NY Mets today, shutting them down for a a 3-0 Marlins victory. Victor Zambrano (4-7) tried his best, but unfortunately it wasn't enough. After going eight innings, he gave up three runs and seven hits. Aaron Heilman came in for one inning and gave up one hit and no runs. Besides Willis's domination of the Mets offense, two fielding errors - one by Cairo in the first and one by Beltran in the seventh - cost the Mets two runs. Tomorrow's pitching dual pins Kaz Ishii against John Patterson and the Nationals. Let's Go Mets!
7/2/2005 - The NY Mets Are Back In The Cellar!
With the Phillies win today and the Mets 3-7 loss to the Marlins - they are back in the cellar. It was nice to see the Mets on top of another team, even if for a short while! Kris Benson (6-3) pitched six innings and gave up eight hits and five runs - and lost for the first time in six starts. Heath Bell, Royce Ring and Danny Graves came on in relief and allowed a combined three hits and two runs (with both runs off Ring) in three innings of work.
The biggest blunder of the day wasn't pitching, it was Carlos Beltran's mental meltdown when he hit a popup and basically stood there as it dropped, causing a double play. He did try to redeem himself in the fifth inning when he hit an RBI double - but it wasn't enough offensively and wasn't enough for the fans who booed him from last plate blunder. The Mets end this three game series tomorrow afternoon at 1:10 pm when Victor Zambrano (4-6) and the Mets take on one of the toughest pitchers in the league - Dontrelle Willis (12-3). Let's Go Mets!
7/2/2005 - Diaz Down and Cairo Up
Victor Diaz was optioned to Norfolk Triple A and Miguel Cairo was activated for today's game.
7/1/2005 - The NY Mets Move Out Of The Cellar With A 7-6 Win!
The Mets finally crawl out of the basement by beating the Florida Marlins 7-6 tonight behind Tom Glavine who pitched five innings and gave up nine hits and three runs. Aaron Heilman followed for two innings and gave up two hits and three runs. Hernandez followed with one scoreless inning and Looper closed out a shakey ninth inning without allowing any runs and earned his seventeenth save for the year.
The Offense was also productive tonight. Mike Cameron hit a solo home run (seventh of the year) in the seventh inning. Tonight's RBI's came from David Wright-2, Mike Cameron-2, Marlon Anderson-1 and Chris Woodward-1. Tomorrow afternoons 1:20 game will pin Kris Benson (6-2) against Brian Moehler (2-6). Let's Go Mets!
